How Christmas Day Started

Seasons greetings

It's Christmas Day!
[ 25 December ]
Christmas is celebrated on December 25 every year honoring the birth of Jesus Christ. Some churches celebrate it on January 7 due to following different calendars.
Jesus is Christianity's central figure. Although the date of his birth has not been pinpointed most agree that he was born around 6 4 B.C. in Bethlehem. At the time his parents Mary and Joseph were on their way to register in the Roman census. Mary was told by an angel that she was with child as a result of Immaculate Conception. She gave birth to Jesus while they stopped for rest.
Jesus spent his life working as a preacher and healer in Galilee and Judea. He was believed to be a messiah who would redeem world of sin. Roman prefect Pilate sentenced him to death by crucifixion. It is believed that he came back to life three days after his execution confirming the fact that he was the son of God.
Two centuries after his death first efforts were made in order to establish the exact date of his birth and December 25 was chosen, possibly out of convenience.
Today, religious and commercial festivities vary from region to region. In The United States and England Christmas has become the biggest economical holiday of the year with people spending weeks before December 25 shopping for presents.
Exchange of presents, decorating homes with lights, holly and mistletoe, decorating a Christmas tree and Santa Claus are some of the traditions that apply worldwide.
Santa Claus, or Father Christmas as he is known in England, is based on a real person, St. Nicholas, a bishop who lived in 4th century. He was generous and kind and eager to help the poor and underprivileged.
The tradition of decorating a Christmas tree originates from Germany but is nowadays common in most countries. Religious celebrations begin with Advent and include Midnight mass on Christmas Eve and carol singing.

India Independence Day eGreetings - 15 August 2011

Sharing with you the pride of being Indian...
And celebrating another glorious year of her Independence

The Independence Day of India is celebrated on the fifteenth of August to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation in 1947. The day is a national holiday in India. All over the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies are conducted by the local administration in attendance. The main event takes place in Delhi, the capital city of India, where the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts. In his speech, he highlights the achievements of his Government during the past year, raises important issues and gives a call for further development. The Prime Minister also pays his tribute to leaders of the freedom struggle.

"Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high...
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake."
-Rabindranath Tagore

Adopt New Norms For Better Interpersonal Communication

A norm is an expression of the way we do things around us. It’s what is commonly practiced in our work place. Traditional norms  are reflective of the culture of most of the organizations. They will not allow or produce remarkable group effectiveness or results. The new norms as listed below are fundamental to being a powerful group or organization.
Listening respectfully and generously:
Listening respectfully means paying attention and truly allowing people to finish their thinking and speaking. Listening generously means allowing people to express ideas and views different than our own without resisting their speaking either verbally or non-verbally. This new norm is to be replaced with the traditional " Preoccupied or pretending to listen, thinking we are getting away with it.'
Being honest, authentic and candid:
This means speaking honestly in a way that forwards the conversation. It means speaking as friends. It simply means speaking straight— saying what is so for us. It means not leaving a conversation with something still unsaid that needs to be said. This should be the substitution for the traditional Norm " Not speaking up when we have a concern."
Doing what you say you will do:
Exchanging and honoring specific commitments. This means respecting each other’s commitments and our own. If we are working to create new futures, we won’t always succeed in completing or achieving every commitment, but that does not mean we were inauthentic in committing. Exchanging commitments is how work gets done. This could be the replacement for "Keeping our word only when we feel like it or it’s convenient" which is a traditional norm.
Being on each other’s side:
This is being on each other’s side in the way that parents are on the side of their kids. It’s the way that great coaches relate to each and every person on their team. No matter what happens, we are for each other. A mistake is just a mistake and doesn’t lead to less trust or less relationship. The tratitional norm related to it is  "Concerned for ourselves."
Acknowledging and appreciating each other:
This means that each person commits to continuously acknowledging and appreciating the contribution of others and the group itself. This includes acknowledging each other when things don’t work out. This is above and beyond the simple courtesies that are also important. To be adopted in place of traditional norm "Not letting people know that we value and appreciate them".
