 =========== Update#1 on 23 November, 2014 =========

On eve of my Birthday, the 22nd November, 2014, I have participated in a Communicate Service Project undertaken by Rotary Club Of Hyderabad Metro in which I am Director-PR. This is an on going project at Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, an initiative of Mahatma Gandhi, established in the early 1945 in Hyderabad [ http://www.kgnmthyd.org ] in its SWADHAR - A shelter home to the distressed, deserted and destitute women for their rehabilitation. Presently there are 123 inmates housed at the Trust. 42 of them are studying in schools and colleges, 56 are mentally unsound and 25 are normal but have been abused and left on the streets and 8 are elderly persons. We the Rotary members donated Inverter & backup equipment, Provisions including Sugar, Biscuits, Fruits and used dresses for the inmates.

Photos: (1) Rotarians taking stock of collected donation material (2) A cross section of inmates assembled to receive material. (3) Extending my gesture to the young inmates by handing over my donation of dresses to them while Rotary Club President Dr.Manik Prabhu looks on.

Earth Day Pledge - water2birds

Birds need water for drinking and bathing. Water is particularly important during the winter when natural supplies may be frozen, and in dry, hot weather during the summer when water can be hard to find. Hot weather leaves birds vulnerable. With most of water sources having vanished or dried out, birds die in want of water. The bird lovers must ensure that these winged creatures do not face any
water crisis. Birds have no sweat glands, so they need less water than mammals. However, they do lose water through respiration, and in their droppings. Most small birds need to drink at least twice a day to replace the lost water. Birds get the liquid they need from their food, and by drinking. Many insectivorous birds get most of their water from food. Seed-eating birds have a dry diet and they do need to drink more. Water is freely available to small birds at the shallow edges of ponds and streams.
They may also drink water droplets that form on leaves. Aerial species such as swallows and swifts swoop down onto a water body and scoop up a beakful of water while still in flight. Very impressive!

Most birds drink by dipping their bill in water and throwing their head back to swallow. Pigeons and doves are able to immerse their beaks and can drink continuously.

Bird lovers should create awareness right from within their homes by teaching our wards and family members about the importance of keeping water bowls under a shade on the balcony or  terrace.

Now, as a first step, please take a pledge towards this at: http://http://www.pledgebank.com/water2birds

Moderating Seminar On Corporate Social Responsibility

Today I will be moderating an all day Seminar on "Corporate Social Responsibility in new avatar" organized by Hyderabad Chapter of Company Secretaries at Katria Hotel, Somajiguda,Hyderabad:

Seminar objectives:

Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR ] is a concept whereby Corporations not only consider their profitability and growth, but also the interests of society and the environment by taking responsibility for the impact of their activities on stakeholders, employees, shareholders, customers, suppliers and civil society represented by NGOs. The idea conceptualized in this direction is termed as CSR.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs [ MCA ] notified the Rules for implementation of Section 135 of the Companies Act 2013, which cover the  CSR  obligations for Companies. The Rules specify that the Act will take effect from 1 April, 2014. The rules are broadly in line with the draft Rules put out for public comments in September 2013.
The notification of the Rules is a big step forward since it formalizes a regulation that will significantly enhance resources available for addressing India’s social development challenges and guides companies on the framework within which they can engage in this effort, from a regulatory point of view.
This seminar aims towards making Companies not only be perceived as a Good Corporate citizen, but also as one who is aware and conscious about Society, Environment, People and Planet.
Distinguished Speakers will present their impressions on the Rules, provide tips to go about with CSR in the Companies and share their knowledge as to how professionals working in and for the Companies to deal with CSR in the light of MCA Rules read with the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013.
Who can attend: Company Secretaries in employment, Practising Company Secretaries, Company Directors, Company Executives, CS Students

After attending this Seminar, please post your thoughts and impressions in the comments box in this blog.

International Women's Day - 8 March

Woman is the companion of man, gifted with equal mental capacity...
If by strength is meant moral power, then woman is immeasurably man's superior...
If non-violence is the law of our being, the future is with women...

Making A Beginning With Apps

Mobile App:
A mobile app, short for mobile application or just app, is application software designed to run on smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. Mobile applications usually help users by connecting them to Internet services more commonly accessed on desktop or notebook computers, or help them by making it easier to use the Internet on their portable devices. This is an application, especially downloaded by a users to a mobile device.

I have created my own App called "Business Card App" to enable my contacts reach me more easily. When this app is downloaded by you on your mobile device, you are asked to add it to  "Home Screen" in addition to Bookmark. By default ' CS' icon with 'SVSN' text appears. You can change text to "SuryanaryanarayanaSV" or "Surya" to identify this app on Home Screen. I am now reachable just one click away.

My business card app even allows you to email me or browse my website and share my app with your contacts on Facebook or Twitter or LinkedIin.

Just click on the link and follow the instructions to install my Business Card App on your Mobile device: http://suryanarayanasv.newcard.com

Mobile website:

I have upgraded my website www.suryanarayana.com to a mobile friendly website which can  be viewed conveniently on any mobile device by entering in a browser:
