Apply Six Thinking Hats

I have taken a Training Session for the semi-qualified Company Secretaries during the 1st Executive Development Programme organized  by the Hyderabad Chapter of Company Secretaries. It was also a challenge to me to design this new subject for a Training session of this nature. The session went off with the best involvement of 53 boys and girls. I admire their patience to follow and understand the new concept of Thinking. I have a satisfaction, though flaws occurred in the flow, the youngsters effectively involved in solving the exercise given on the cricketer Sachin Tendulkar [recently broke the world record with 200 runs in  One Day International Cricket].

I have also compiled a leaflet to distribute to the participants. Download link: http://suryanarayana.com/resources/training/ApplySixThinkingHatsLeaflet.pdf

I am looking forward for all the 9 teams Blue Hat Leaders to submit their report in the comments box of this Blog on following assignment for my evaluation:

Our team decided to implement this project as a corporate social responsibility and for sustainability. Since we have to implement within one day, the practical solution was to buy a computer costing Rs. 25,000 and install it at a school where it is most needed within 50 kms from Hyderabad. This will help in spreading computer literacy, and with internet it will open up the world for the lives of many children in that rural area, making their life better.

My team consists of Ms.Palak(White),Ms.Vanaja(Red),Ms.Ambika(Green),Ms.Asfia(Black),Ms.Saranya(Yellow).They have given me their opinions - some supporting the cause, some making allocations of the budgeted amount, how it should be implemented and what are the various aspects which are to be looked into(i.e.) planning, organizing, controlling and coordinating the various related activities. I present to you our observations on the said CSR Project as follows:
    Why it should be implemented:
1)As a company/organization, we want to contribute to the society in what ever possible way as we think that it is the society/people who have reposed faith in us by accepting our services, products, providing us the requisite capital for development of infrastructure thereby helping us to grow and diversify ourselves, which we want to repay by serving them in this cause.
2)Education plays a vital role in a person's life. It can make or mar an individual. Primary education is very essential though the importance of Secondary and Higher education cannot be overlooked. It is the former which is to be considered. By accepting this project, we want to contribute to the Government's initiatives of making available the primary education in rural/remote villages.
3)When we opt for this project, we will be aware of the various difficulties/problems faced by people in that village and can try to resolve them one after another(i.e.)availability of health services, basic amenities like potable water, electricity, employment opportunities, promoting small&medium scale ventures etc.
4)When this project is taken up - we shall be known as pioneers and also make others to follow us by setting standards, thereby initiating the change which we expect in the society at large - beneficial to one and all. It enhances our reputation/goodwill.
5)The hands-on experience gained by the personnel deputed for implementing the project shall be immense - wherein they can look at things in a different perspective. It enables them to apply their expertise, skill, experience for a good cause.
6)The budgeted amount is not a strain on the company's funds.

Why the Project should not be implemented:
We don't see any reason in not implementing the project.

    How to implement:
1)Collect the data/information as to which school is to be adopted from the many schools(if any) in the said vicinity, number of students, what is the present condition with regard to seating arrangements, providing middaymeals,uniforms,books/library facilities, drinking water, trained staff/teachers,playground facilities and physical trainer to promote physical fitness etc.
2)Planning should be done as to how the renovation works are to be carried out on priority basis.
3)Assignment/allocation of responsibilities/funds to carry on the work to various personnel who have been chosen by the organisation/company for this purpose.
4)Work should be properly coordinated by rectifying the deviations from predetermined plans immediately - so as to finish the project of time.
    5)Allocation of funds may be:
    Tables/Chairs Rs.12,000/-
    Books Rs.12,000/-
    Game Kits Rs. 1,000/-
    -----------------
    Total: Rs.25,000/-
    -----------------
6)Appreciating/commending the personnel for excellent work carried on thereby raising their motivational levels, morale and performance - thereby enabling others to take up such work with enthusiasm.

Sir, I would like to conclude with the words "a good beginning makes a good ending". This is to impress upon the fact that such an initiative on the part of every company will make a lot of difference in imparting the cause of social justice to all citizens in the society.
